Quick answers

Good to know before you start

Are the patterns really free?

Yes. Every pattern and guide on the site is free to read. You only need your own yarn, fabric and tools.

Should I learn crochet or quilting first?

Crochet needs only a hook and yarn, so it is cheaper to start. Quilting needs fabric, a cutter and usually a sewing machine. Start with the one you would use most.

My pattern says "dc". Which stitch is that?

It depends on where the pattern is from. In US patterns, dc is a double crochet. In UK patterns, dc is the stitch Americans call single crochet. The decoder above sorts it out.

What is a fat quarter?

A quarter yard of fabric cut about 18 × 22 in instead of a long 9 in strip. It is the go-to cut for scrappy quilt blocks.

Can I suggest a pattern or topic?

Yes. Send your idea through the contact page and we will consider it for a future guide.
